This event is part of the project / event series ‘How can teachers in Japanese language education help learners to develop their communication competence?’ initially developed and led by Megumi Bailey (Dept Language and Linguistic Science), now a full LFA Japanese Team joint-venture with the addition of Dr Yumi Nixon (Dept. Language and Linguistic Science) as a co-organiser. The project has been awarded a grant from the Japan Foundation, London.

This event is the third workshop-style seminar in the series and will take place on Sunday 13 June 2021 at 12.00 (GMT) via Zoom.
Seminar 3. OJAEアセスメント法に基き実践体験 Practical experience in assessments based on the OJAE method
At our second seminar we reflected on the first seminar and discussed how ‘dialogues’ were developed between interactants in the process of Oral Japanese Assessment Europe (OJAE) assessment at A2 and B2 levels. Reflections were first carried out in small groups, followed by the OJAE team feedback, and ended with the creation of short drama recordings of participants based on the theme of ‘dialogue’ and their questions and reflections regarding oral assessments. These group recordings were shared among participants and OJAE team members after the seminar.
In this last seminar we will experience the OJAE method based on the observation of the B2 level assessment recording of two Japanese learners. Prior to the seminar participants were provided with three videos as pre-session tasks: A2 and B2 level oral assessment recordings and the explanation about the OJAE assessment method. We will undertake the assessment in small groups and share our results in the whole group, which will be followed by OJAE team feedback. The session will end with participants’ reflection on the past three sessions focusing on the theme of ‘dialogue’.

I participated in the seminar thinking I would be taught ‘how to improve learners’ communication competence’. Now, thinking back, I had a rather passive attitude then. While participating in the seminars, I came to have questions about the topic and started to think and learn proactively to find answers myself. This is the most valuable aspect for me. |

The seminar is for all Japanese language educators in the UK and beyond. It will be conducted in Japanese language.
