  • MA in History of Art (Architectural History and Theory) (full-time)

What are your research interests / what are you working on?

"My recent research interest is on internationalism in modern architecture."

What modules have been most fascinating and why?

"My favourite modules have been The Bauhaus and Weimar Culture and Sir Christopher Wren, because they have inspired me greatly on architecture. The Art and Imagery in York Minster module is also among my favourites, since from it I learned how to appreciate a medieval cathedral. It is fantastic."

What background do you come to HoA from and why HoA?

"I came to York with a great interest in history of art rather than a professional background, but York has been so encouraging and supportive and I’m really grateful for that."

Why York rather than somewhere else?

"I came to York because when I saw York’s website I was immediately attracted by the York Minster and Bauhaus modules."

How has your experience at York broadened your horizons as an art historian?

"From the modules I’ve taken I not only studied the art history I’m interested in, but also learned how to conduct research as an art historian. Besides, York is a lovely and beautiful place to get focussed on study."

Do you find there’s a strong group atmosphere among the students?

"Yes. There is a very studious and positive atmosphere among my classmates, and we are all very friendly and supportive to each other."

What’s the level of support like from staff and the department as a whole, are they receptive to feedback?

"The tutors and the department as whole are extremely patient with and supportive towards me. I am very thankful for their instructions and encouragements on my modules and research."

What’s been your favourite study trip and why?

"My favourite study trip was the one on the Sir Christopher Wren module, when we went to Cambridge. Our tutor, Anthony, taught us a lot about architecture throughout the trip. Besides seeing Christopher Wren’s fascinating architecture, we all learned a lot in that enjoyable environment.

What do you feel is the most important thing you will take away from your experience at York?

"I think it will be the ability to learn things that I’m interested in not only from seminars, but more importantly, from books."

Do you have an idea of how you’ll use your degree/plans for the future?

"I will use it to pursue PhD study a York; my dream job would be becoming a successful curator who could introduce more British art exhibitions to China."
