Profile

Biography

Sophie joined the York Trials Unit in July 2017 following her previous research experience working within NHS and Pharmaceutical Clinical Trial teams.

She has worked as a Trial Support officer/Trial Co-ordinator on five NIHR-funded multicentre RCTs, including three surgical RCTs.

Sophie has completed a NIHR Pre-Doctoral Fellowship during which she undertook preliminary research on measuring acceptability of surgical interventions. She has been awarded a 3 year NIHR Doctoral Fellowship on the topic of Defining and Measuring Patient Acceptability in Orthopaedic Surgery which includes a multi-phase project to develop and implement a measurement instrument to assess the acceptability of orthopaedic surgical interventions to patients.

Projects

  • Defining and Measuring Patient Acceptability in Orthopaedic Surgery: a multi-phase project to develop and implement a measurement instrument to assess the acceptability of orthopaedic surgical interventions to patients.

Previous Projects

  • DISC – An RCT comparing injections of collagenase to surgical correction in the treatment of moderate Dupuytren's contracture
  • HAMLET - A multicentre, two-arm, non-blinded, pragmatic, parallel group, randomised controlled superiority trial assessing the clinical and cost effectiveness of Through Knee Amputation (TKA) compared to Above Knee Amputation (AKA) in patients requiring major lower limb amputations (MMLA), but who are unsuitable for a Below Knee Amputation (BKA).
  • PROMOTE – Placebo-controlled trial of methotrexate to treat painful knee osteoarthritis
  • RESTART PD - A multicentre, two-arm, non-blinded, pragmatic, parallel group, randomised controlled superiority trial with the aim of assessing the clinical and cost effectiveness of Reality DTx®compared with traditional physiotherapy for patients with Parkinson’s Disease.
  • SOFFT – A non-inferiority RCT of fracture fixation for simple olecranon fractures in adults
