Biography

Shannon graduated from the University of York with a BSc in Mathematics & Statistics in July 2022. Her undergraduate research considered the use of statistical pattern recognition techniques to identify counterfeit whisky. She joined the York Trials Unit as a Trainee Statistician in October 2022 alongside studying towards an MSc in Statistics with Medical Applications at the University of Sheffield.

  • ACTIVE – A RCT assessing the effectiveness of internal plate fixation versus external fine wire fixation for the management of Type C, closed pilon fractures of the distal tibia
  • ARROW
  • DIADEM - Developing and evaluating an adapted behavioural activation intervention for people with depression and diabetes in South Asia
  • FARSTER-Care - An RCT investigating whether, following cardiac surgery with full median sternotomy, an accelerated cardiac rehabilitation pathway will lead to improved patient outcomes and is cost effective compared to the usual timing of cardiac rehabilitation.
  • SCOOTT - A multi-centre, superiority and non-inferiority three-arm RCT to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of treating arthritis of the base of the thumb, with or without surgery and to determine the clinical and cost effectiveness of trapeziectomy versus base of thumb joint replacement.
