Biography
Laura joined the York Trials Unit in July 2019. She previously worked at Sheffield Clinical Trials Research Unit which she joined after completing an MSc in Statistics at the University of Leeds in 2014.

Overview
Laura's research interests include methods for handling missing data, analysis of cluster RCTs and trials with clustering by health professional and design and analysis of diagnostic accuracy studies.
Projects
- DIAMONDS - An RCT of the DIAMONDS Programme investigating the clinical and cost-effectiveness of the DIAMONDS intervention (diabetes self-management programme) for people with severe mental illnesses (SMI) and type 2 diabetes.
- FLARE - A multi-centre, two-arm, non-inferiority, parallel group, randomised controlled trial with an internal pilot, economic evaluation and nested qualitative study, to assess whether the repair of the Flexor Digitorum Profundus (FDP) alone results in a as good as quality of life compared to repairing FDP and the Flexor Digitorum Superficialis (FDS).
- HAMLET - A multicentre, two-arm, non-blinded, pragmatic, parallel group, randomised controlled superiority trial assessing the clinical and cost effectiveness of Through Knee Amputation (TKA) compared to Above Knee Amputation (AKA) in patients requiring major lower limb amputations (MMLA), but who are unsuitable for a Below Knee Amputation (BKA).
- INTERACT - A cluster RCT of Intensive Interaction to support the communication abilities of children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
- PERISCOPE - What are the benefits and harms of continuation versus stoppage of biologics in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA) undergoing orthopaedic surgery?
- SOFFT – A non-inferiority RCT of fracture fixation for simple olecranon fractures in adults

- ASSSIST-2 - A study to develop a manualised Social Stories intervention for use with children with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream schools to reduce challenging behaviour.
- CHAMP-1 – A 5-year programme to design and evaluate in an RCT an intervention to incorporate discussion of alcohol use in medication appointments
- LEXIA – A trial of the effectiveness of Lexia Reading CORE5, a computer-based independent learning system for struggling readers in Year 2
- PACT – a programme of six inter-linked studies to understand and improve the experience and safety of care for elderly patients during transitions from hospital to home
- SWHSI-2 – A pragmatic multicentre randomised controlled trial to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of negative pressure wound therapy versus usual care for surgical wounds healing by secondary intention
