Why did you decide to train as a teacher?

When looking at jobs leading on from economics, I realised that the majority of them lacked what I was looking for - positive relationships, rewarding work and the power to impact people's lives. Simply put, teaching offers this and more.

Why did you choose to train with the University of York?

The UoY ranks highly for education and ITT, and is recognised as a high quality course nationwide. But what made me apply was the city of York itself. The city has a high concentration of outstanding schools but with students from a range of demographics. Quality and experienced teachers tend to stay put, as York is a great place to set down roots. So York offers great tutors, fantastic teachers, outstanding schools, a diverse range of backgrounds and a good location.

What have been particular highlights of your training so far?

The lead up to the first lessons are nerve-wracking, but when they go well the feeling of satisfaction is amazing.

What advice would you give to current University of York undergraduates in your subject area who are thinking of teaching and considering doing their training at York?

YSIS!!! Economics students happy to do maths are in high demand, and schools will put in a great deal of effort to meet your needs to get you. YSIS is a fairly effortless way to get stuck in and see if teaching could be for you. It will also give you unique and valuable experiences for applications - whether they be for teaching or other industries.
