Does Citizenship Education connect with Japanese Home Economics Education?

Posted on 14 March 2016

Professor Imoto of Kawaga Nutrition University and Professor Arai of the University of Fukui (both Japan) visited the Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice in March 2016.

Discussions occurred about academic papers and professional teaching and learning reosurces for what is know in Japan as Home Economics. Japanese colleagues have been exploring issues concerning not only what might be regarded as the traditional aspects of food preparation and home management but they also are concerned with issues about gender, public health, housing and the responsibilities of local and national governments in a changing world. The Japanese are keen to develop their subject in the context of globalization exploring what is done by educators in other national settings and also by considering global issues about social justice.
