Posted on 13 April 2016

Third year Department of Education students Lydia Instone and Hannah Hope took a break from their studies to represent University of York in the Irish Student Trampoline Open.

Seventeen York students attended the event that took place at Queen’s University in Belfast during the Easter university break and included novices to highly experienced squads.

Education student Lydia is Captain of the Trampolining Club at York, and has taken part in the sport for 13 years on a regional and national level, competing for schools, sixth form and now university, and is also a trampolining coach.

I find trampolining a brilliant relief from any external stresses.

Lydia said: “Over my three years at the University of York club I have attended the large majority of sessions as either a gymnast or a coach, and hope I have contributed to the positive club atmosphere. I find trampolining a brilliant relief from any external stresses, and a place to stay fit, make friends and have fun. It complements my studies and works well with my course commitments.”

Psychology in Education student Hannah, who started trampolining in her second year at university,  added, “The Irish Student Trampoline Open competition was a great few days. We looked around Belfast and on the other days everyone came and supported each other competing. In the evenings there were socials with different themes, including St Patrick’s day and Hawiian. I find the club at York to be very welcoming and inclusive.”
