York alumnus to become TESOL International Association President

Former MA and PhD student Dr Andy Curtis will take up the position this month.

The elected position, for the TESOL International Association, the world's largest language teaching association, will last last for one year. 

Dr Curtis studied for a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics with English Language Teaching at the University of York in 1992. He then went on to complete a PhD in International Education here in 1996.

From 2007 to 2011, Dr Curtis was the Director of the English Language Teaching Unit at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at CUHK. Prior to this, from 2002 to 2006, he was the Director and then the Executive Director of the School of English at Queen’s University in Canada, and from 2001 to 2002, he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Language Teacher Education at the School for International Training, Vermont, USA. He is now part of Anaheim University’s TESOL professorial team.
