Laura, who was an undergraduate in the Department of Education, has worked tirelessly and enthusiastically as a PGWT throughout her 1st year as a PhD student, supporting 1st year undergraduates by leading weekly seminars. She was nominated for the award by first year students. The students speak very highly of Laura as a tutor who has been consistently supportive and encouraging throughout their first year at York.

We congratulate Laura for this accolade and wish her well with her studies.

Laura’s research considers specifically Shakespeare-focused alternatives created by State Judiciary courts in Massachusetts, Michigan and Kentucky.

The £5,000 funding will aid Laura’s research into the implementation, content and success of such programmes by providing key background understanding of the roots of the initiatives. The trip will also create the first link between the University of York and these programmes.

Laura said, “I have had invitations from several programmes to carry out this work and with the funding from Santander I am now able to accept this unique opportunity. I would like to thank Santander and the Department of Education at the University of York for their support.”

The Santander International Connections Awards are highly competitive travel grants to support students and staff in their personal progression related to their academic studies and/or their personal career ambitions.
