Posted on 13 August 2013

Dr Elizabeth Swinbank, of the Centre for Innovation and Research in Science Education (CIRSE), presented two sessions at the International Conference on Physics Education and European Physics Education Conference (ICPE-EPEC) which took place in Prague 5 to 9 August 2013.

The workshop session 'Embedding formative assessment and promoting active learning' described the new York Science project for Key Stage 3 (directed by Mary Whitehouse and Professor Robin Millar) and involved delegates in discussion of materials developed by the project team.

The oral presentation 'Extended project work for school physics students', which drew on work carried out for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in collaboration with Dr John Taylor at Rugby School, presented examples of physics-based projects and highlighted strategies for generating successful project work.

The conference, which had the theme 'Active learning – in a changing world of new technologies' was attended by over three hundred physics educators from 55 countries.
