Leverhulme funding awarded to Benedetta Bassetti

Posted on 18 July 2013

Dr Benedetta Bassetti has been awarded a Leverhulme grant to study second language pronunciation of English.

Dr Benedetta Bassetti has been awarded a Leverhulme grant for a research project on 'Effects of orthography on phonology on second language speakers of English', in collaboration with Professor Jackie Masterson (Institute of Education, London). This three-year project will investigate how the written forms (or spelling) of English words affect pronunciation in second language speakers and learners of English. The project's findings may have implications for theories of second language phonological development and for the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.
