Award given for outstanding contributions to teaching

Congratulations to Dr Vanita Sundaram (Education), Dr Gillian Hampden-Thompson (Education) and Dr Kate Harper (Community and Volunteering Unit, Careers Service) who have been awarded a Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award for 2012. The awards, introduced in 2006, are given to recognise outstanding teaching and learning support. The award was won for the work in designing and implementing a unique, innovative and highly successful Volunteering and Enrichment programme for undergraduate students in the Department of Education.

The awards panel commended the project’s creative approach to linking classroom learning with ‘real world’ experience, promoting a culture of volunteering and personal enrichment within the Department. They were particularly impressed by the way in which the project has been sustained and expanded to include other cohorts and a further department, and by the way students have become involved in staff research projects.

The Award will be formally conferred by the Vice-Chancellor at one of this summer’s degree ceremonies.
