Education at York ranks in the Top 125 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject, 2026

We have been ranked Top 125 in the world, and 14th in the UK, for Education Studies in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

On the ranking, Co-Heads of Department Professor Kathryn Asbury and Professor Vanita Sundaram said: “We are delighted that the Department has been ranked 14th in the UK for Education and this is a reflection of the excellent research and teaching done by colleagues in Education.”

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject are published annually to help students choose a university course. It ranks universities by subject area in metrics including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

York’s overall position

York has been ranked in the top 150 for six subjects in the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

  • Arts and Humanities: 62nd (12th in the UK)
  • Business and Economics: 101–125 (15th in the UK)
  • Medical and Health: 101–125 (17th in the UK)
  • Education Studies: 101–125 (14th in the UK)  
  • Psychology: =77 (10th in the UK) 
  • Social Sciences: 126–150 (22nd in the UK)
