Biography

Dr Stephen Hall is Senior Industry Research Fellow in Energy and Climate Futures. Dr Hall is a political economist of energy system transformations, his work explores the business models, regulations and social impacts of Net Zero in the UK and internationally. Dr Hall has led research collaborations on creative solutions for domestic retrofit, business model and policy innovation for Net Zero energy systems, and the social impacts of decarbonising large technical systems.

Dr Hall’s work has been used in over 100 policy publications across 14 countries. He has worked with large corporate utilities, engineering companies, public sector organisations and civil society groups to discover ways to accelerate Net Zero and Just Transitions.

Research

Overview

Dr Hall’s work has spanned multiple elements of our journey to Net Zero. This includes the development of local/decentralised energy systems, the business models and regulatory structures affecting carbon removal, and the policy and commercial solutions to climate action.

Dr Hall uses strategic foresight, human centred design, and collective intelligence methods to tackle complex climate action problems that involve multiple partners and competing interests.
