The Menopause Journey of Chinese Migrant Workers in Paid Employment in the UK
I am a PhD Researcher whose work focuses on bridging the fields of international Human Resource Management (HRM), migrant studies, and women’s health. My research is directly motivated by a commitment to addressing workplace inequalities, particularly for underrepresented minority groups.
This academic focus was shaped by personal and professional encounters, notably observing the complex challenges faced by Chinese migrant women in navigating menopause while living abroad. This experience is often compounded by deeply rooted cultural taboos, immigration-related stress, and barriers in accessing culturally relevant Western healthcare, such as a reluctance toward Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
By utilizing a rigorous qualitative approach, I aim to amplify the voices of these women. My goal is to translate academic insights into actionable, culturally sensitive policies that contribute to creating supportive and equitable workplaces for menopausal migrant women globally.
