Profile

Biography

Kiet Duong is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the School for Business and Society, University of York. Prior to joining the University of York in December 2021, he held the position of Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Huddersfield Business School, University of Huddersfield. His previous academic appointments include roles as Assistant Lecturer in Accounting and Finance and as Tutor in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Essex, in addition to serving as an External Examiner for the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He also brings professional experience from the banking sector, gained prior to the commencement of his academic career.

He holds administrative responsibilities as Database Coordinator and serves as a member of the Research Committee within the School for Business and Society, University of York. He also participates in partnership initiatives, collaborating with universities outside the United Kingdom. In addition, he has been part of the organising team for the Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) conferences—SMIFUK22 and SMIFUK23, which were hosted by the University of York.

He holds an MSc in Finance and a PhD in Finance from the University of Essex. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

His research interests encompass corporate finance, corporate governance, and CEO and board director characteristics. He welcomes opportunities for research collaboration and is interested in supervising PhD candidates whose projects align with his areas of expertise. 

His research has recently received funding from the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust Small Research Grant (2023) and the British Council Gender Equality Partnership Grant (2024).

He is an Associate Editor for International Finance and contributes regularly to the peer-review process for a range of high-quality academic journals. 

His ad hoc reviewing activities include service for the Journal of Corporate Finance, Risk Analysis, European Journal of Finance, European Management Journal, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and Corporate Governance.

In December 2024, he conducted a research visit at the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies (BOFIT). His research was later presented at HM Treasury in 2025. 

His work has gained wider visibility through media coverage by leading platforms such as VoxEU, CEPR, and the LSE Blogs.
