Biography
Professor David Yoon holds the Chair in Global Business and Development, with a specialization in international business and entrepreneurship. Prior to joining York in 2024, he was a faculty member in the Department of International Business at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds.
His research explores how institutions and national culture influence the behavior and strategy of multinational corporations, venture capitalists, start-ups, and entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on technological innovation and sustainable development. His work addresses critical issues such as aging, climate change, and social mobility.
His research has been published, or is forthcoming, in leading FT50 journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, and Research Policy, as well as in other respected outlets like the Journal of Business Research, Small Business Economics, International Business Review, and British Journal of Management. He is currently serving as an advisory board member of the journal International Business Review. He is actively engaged in the global scholarly community, currently serving as a committee officer for the Academy of International Business' Sustainability Shared Interest Group.
He has received multiple accolades, including the Palgrave Macmillan Prize for Best Conference Paper at the 2024 Academy of International Business, and was a finalist for both the International Business Review Best Paper Award in 2021 and the Academy of International Business Best Paper Award in 2022. His research has also been funded by prestigious organizations, such as the British Academy, Leverhulme Trust, and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Professor Yoon’s research expertise is at the intersection of international business, entrepreneurship, and innovation. His current research agenda includes: (a) behavior and strategy of firms, entrepreneurs, and innovators in response to mega-events; (b) institutional changes, national culture, and grand challenges; and (c) technological catch-up by latecomer economies.
