The Climate Justice and Social Policy Group

Posted on 14 May 2021

The Social Policy Association Executive Committee launches The Climate Justice and Social Policy Group.

We are delighted to announce that two members of the School for Business and Society, Dr Carolyn Snell and PhD student Kelli Kennedy, have been involved in the creation of The Climate Justice and Social Policy Group. The group is supported by the Social Policy Association (SPA) and is led by Carolyn and Matt Scott from National Energy Action. Other members of the group include former SPSW PhD student Harriet Thomson who is now an Associate Professor in Global Social Policy and Sociology at the University of Birmingham.

The group, along with other Policy Groups, were officially launched at an SPA event on the 29th April 2021. It will follow and critically assess the intersections between UK climate and social policy making and implementation, placing an emphasis on inequality, justice and underrepresented groups. The group will organise two SPA symposiums in 2021 and 2022 alongside a series of policy focused roundtable events. If you would like to be involved get in touch by emailing cuspspa@gmail.com. The group recently released its first blog on issues of climate justice and social policy, which can be read here: Heating up environmental debates: climate justice and social policy combined
