Interview with Chief Inspector Al Westcott

Posted on 10 November 2020

Professor Charlie Lloyd interviews Chief Inspector Al Westcott from the North Yorkshire Police.

Chief Inspector Al Wescott visited the Department on Wednesday 4th November to take part in an interview with Professor Charlie Lloyd, which was broadcast live to third year Police and Policing students on Zoom. This was the first time this had been attempted and it worked very well.

Al gave a fascinating and honest account of his career as a police officer in the Metropolitan Police, Humberside Police and most recently in the North Yorkshire Police, and also spoke about the key issues currently facing the police, including COVID-19 and working with vulnerable people.

Students were given the chance to ask Al questions after the interview and grasped this opportunity with both hands by posing some very relevant and probing questions about a range of issues, such as gender within the force, and dealing with violent situations. Al answered these in his usual open, reflective manner.

Due to the success of the event, Charlie is planning to conduct a similar interview with Al for next year's module participants.
