Further images from Retreat archive now available

Over 75,000 digital images from the Retreat archive can now be viewed via the Wellcome Library website

Work continues on our Wellcome Library funded project to digitise the archive of the Retreat, an institution for the care and treatment of mental health patients.

Over 75,000 images are now freely available to view online via the Wellcome Library website.

Material from the archive that has been digitised so far relates to the administration of the institution and includes management minutes and papers, annual reports, incoming correspondence and visitor records. See for example the hospital's first visitor's book which dates from 1798 to 1822.

Further images from the archive will be released on a rolling schedule as this project continues.
