Sean Brown
Lecturer in Editing for Film and TV

Biography

I began my career as a freelance editor before joining ITV Yorkshire to work in their post-production facility. My role at ITV involved converting analogue film rushes to digital formats with synchronised audio for television dramas, documentaries, commercials, and feature films. Notable projects include BBC's Life on Mars, The Royle Family, and Bronson (2008).

I have also spent many years working in filmmaking education at both The Northern Film School and the Heart of Yorkshire Group, before joining the University of York in 2024.

As an independent filmmaker, I have created multiple short films and two feature films that have been released internationally.

I hold an MFA in Filmmaking and am trained as an Avid Certified Instructor. I teach Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve on both the undergraduate and postgraduate Film programmes.

My specialisms include digital cinema post-production workflows, as well as editing techniques and theory for film and television.
