Thesis Title & Description

Western Opera in Contemporary Mainland China: Reception and Reform

  • Supervisor: Áine Sheil, Caroline Waddington-Jones

In my research, I will do historical research on the Western opera dissemination process in China and through influential impact performances explore Western opera comprehension and interpretation by Chinese artists. Furthermore, it will conduct surveys, focus groups and interviews with opera audience members, music students and non-music majors, and opera-related professionals, investigating the reception situation of Western opera and the future development of Western opera in contemporary mainland China.
