The Importance and Impact of Applying Mental Practice in Teaching Elementary-level Piano Students in Hong Kong.
Supervisors: Dr Marianna Cortesi and Dr Pete Dale
This research aims to investigate the impact of applying the three mental practice skills – auditory, visual, and kinesthetic imagery – in teaching elementary piano students to address technical issues in Hong Kong, and to develop a systematic teaching strategy for mental practice at the elementary level. The research will examine current piano teaching practices in Hong Kong and develop a set of teaching materials for mental practice. Finally, case studies will be conducted to evaluate the impact of applying the set of mental practice methods to elementary-level students.
