Shared Understanding Underlying Musical Coordination: A Joint-Methods Analysis of String Quartet Performance
Tiannan is a PhD student in Music at the University of York, supervised by Dr Andrea Schiavio and Dr Mimi O'Neill.
After completing his MPerf at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and a MA by Research at the University of Huddersfield, Tiannan began his doctoral journey at the University of York. His previous research used Historically Informed Performance (HIP) methods to explore the 'rehabilitated' violin works of Robert Schumann. His current research, situated in the embodied cognition context, explores how shared understanding between performers and their audiences shapes the dynamics of live performance, with particular focus on string quartet performance.
Apart from research, Tiannan is an active violinist and continues his studies with Leland Chen. He regularly performs in concert halls throughout China and the Northern England, bringing his music to diverse audiences.
