Melo-Illuminations; the art of lighting design for musical theatre.

Melo-illuminations is a new area of academic analysis focusing on the relationship between music (melo) and lighting design (illumination). This research provides a framework for how light creates meaning and drives the storytelling in performances with music and lyrics, with a particular focus on musical theatre.

Biography

Having completed a First Class BA in Theatre; Writing Directing and Performance at the University of York, I then embarked on an MA in Design for Performance; Lighting Design Pathway at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In my professional career, I began as a Theatre Technician at the Royal College of Music, London and progressed to become Venue and Lighting Manager. For the past year, I have been working as a Chief Electrician at the Opera House, Manchester.
