Profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer in Digital Design in the Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media at the University of York.

I received my Ph.D. degree in design from Loughborough University in 2022. My doctoral research focused on designing for sustainable behaviour in the scenario of in-flight catering services. I collaborated with passengers, design practitioners and two major airlines headquartered in China, to develop and select design interventions towards the effort of reducing airline food waste.

Before joining the University of York, I worked at Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London as a research associate, where I worked closely with technology designers from a multinational consumer technology company and co-developed a Design for Digital Wellbeing Toolkit with the research team. The aim of the project was identifying design opportunities for technology products that prioritise digital wellbeing and mitigate potential harm for technology users.

I am the co-investigator on several research grants, such as AHRC-funded SEED mini grant (£3000) by UK-China creative industries research and innovation hub in 2023 and secured a funded research project (equivalent to£9000) from the Ministry of Education of China in 2021. I was an awardee of Loughborough University Open Research Collective Grants in 2022.

Research

Overview

My research focuses on responsible design covering subtopics of designing for inclusion, sustainability and wellbeing. I am particularly interested in design for behaviour change, such as developing and select effective design interventions that helps individuals to adopt sustainable and healthier lifestyle with enhanced quality of life.

My current research projects including the following:

  • Design for Sustainable Behaviour with Transient communities
  • Designing Future Eating Experience: Exploring the Synergy between Cultural and Creative Industries and Sustainable Eating
