I am an Assyriologist, specialising in the cuneiform languages and literature of ancient Iraq. I have a BA in English (2014) and an MA in Classics and Ancient History (2018) from the University of Exeter, and an MPhil in Cuneiform Studies (2020) and a DPhil in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (2024) from the University of Oxford. I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Egyptology and Assyriology at Brown University from 2024-2026, and joined York in 2026 to work on the project "Towards Universal Access to Cuneiform Heritage" (https://cdli.earth/postings/239).
My main research interests are the translation and analysis of Sumerian literature from the Old Babylonian period (c. 1800-16600 BCE). My DPhil thesis and forthcoming monograph focus on the corpus of Sumerian love poetry ("Conceptualising the Erotic: Desire, Pleasure, and Metaphor in the Sumerian Love Songs"). I am currently preparing an anthology of my translations of the Sumerian love songs, aimed at a popular audience.
I also work on the modern literary reception of ancient Iraq.
Collaborator with the Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative (https://cdli.earth/)
