General guidance

Staying home if you are unwell: Pre-covid, there was a culture of individuals attending work whilst symptomatic with illness because they still felt well enough to work. Now all staff must exercise caution - it is very important to stay at home when you feel ill, whether this be with covid symptoms or a common cold, flu or sickness. Do not risk transmitting infections to others by coming to work on campus.

If you remain well enough to work from home, and you can, please make these arrangements with your line manager. We know this won't be possible for many campus services and student-facing roles, so we anticipate staff needing to take sick days. Speak to your manager and follow the reporting sickness absence process.

Wearing face coverings: The University recommends that members of the University community follow the latest government guidance on wearing face coverings.

Good hygiene practices: We have learned a lot about transmission and the importance of good hygiene practices over the course of the pandemic, and it is important we continue to build on this. There will continue to be hand sanitizers at key access points on campus.

If you are using hot desking arrangements in your department, ensure that you clean the workspace before and after use.

Respecting space: Where a booking system is in place, be respectful of others who are reserving the space. Whilst some colleagues may feel comfortable with a more flexible approach, others will find it important to plan ahead and to know what space they will be working in and how many others are sharing it. So please be mindful not to use a space that someone else has reserved.

Balancing caring responsibilities: Colleagues are reminded of the leave in special circumstances policy and the guidance on supporting staff with caring responsibilities. These may be helpful for those dealing with unexpected disruption caused by Covid-19 such as school or nursery closures.
