Steve Richards, Chief Political Commentator at The Independent, and Helen Boaden, Director of BBC NewsAs part of the University’s Expert in Industry series, Steve Richards, Chief Political Commentator at The Independent and York alumnus, will discuss politics and the media. He will be joined by special guest Helen Boaden, Director of BBC News, to discuss issues such as phone hacking, expenses, Murdoch and the symbiotic relationship between politics and the media.

Established as one of the most influential political commentators in the country, Steve Richards became The Independent’s chief political commentator in 2000 having been political editor of the New Statesman. He presented GMTV's flagship current affairs show The Sunday Programme and Radio 4’s Week in Westminster. Helen Boaden took up her role as Director, BBC News, in September 2004 and in April 2011 she became the Director of BBC News Group, taking on additional responsibility for the Global News division, and joined the BBC's Executive Board.

The event will take place in The Theatre, Department of Theatre, Film and Television and admission is by free ticket only, available from www.york.ac.uk/tickets.
