University tuition fees and the relationship between politics and the media will be debated by leading figures at a free event at the University of York on Saturday 7 May 2011, 1.30pm to 3pm.

The debate, hosted by the Deputy Speaker in the House of Lords, will take place less than 24 hours after the result of the UK-wide referendum on the electoral system is announced. York alumna Baroness McIntosh will host the debate on 'the drama of politics', with leading journalists Nick Watt and Steve Richards. The discussion will feature insights into the highs and lows of politics, and the dramas which unfold in Whitehall and in the political media.

The debate will open to the audience for questions.

Baroness McIntosh is Deputy Speaker in the Lords, Chairman of Lords committees, and on the board of the Royal Shakespeare Company. She was previously Executive Producer at the RSC, Executive Director at the National Theatre and Chief Executive at the Royal Opera House. Nick Watt is Chief Political Correspondent at the Guardian and Steve Richards is Chief Political Commentator at The Independent.

The event will take place in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television on Heslington East.
