Patient and public involvement

This research is being planned and conducted by a multidisciplinary team, which includes people who have, or have had, an open surgical wound (“patient advisors”).

Service user involvement in the development of the Research Programme

This research was motivated by hearing patients’ experiences of having open surgical wounds. Whilst conducting related research we were particularly struck by the huge impact complicated surgical wounds can have on patients’ lives and how patients may feel let down and isolated as a consequence of having these wounds. We therefore have worked closely with patient advisors whose stories and experiences of open surgical wounds have helped shape this research.

Patient Advisors

Currently, our patient advisors have been involved in informing the design and conduct of this research. They attend research meetings are given the opportunity to advise on the documentation which is used during this research.

We are always keen to involve new patient advisors in our research. If you currently or previously have had an open surgical wound or have another experience of these kinds of wounds, or would like to find out more about contributing to our research please contact Catherine Arundel.
