Grant funding has been received to develop a research Centre for Hyperpolarisation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
This will be developed alongside the York Neuroimaging Centre, located in the BioCentre on York Science Park.
Exciting scientific breakthrough
Collaboration between scientists in York Neuroimaging Centre (YNIC) and the York Magnetic Resonance Centre (YMRC) has led to an exciting breakthrough in the use of hyperpolarisation in MRI. The Centre for Hyperpolarisation in MRI (CHyM), a multi-disciplinary centre of the Chemistry, Psychology and Biology departments, has been created to take forward this leading-edge research. CHyM’s principal objective will be to propel the technological developments in hyperpolarisation through to clinical practice and disease management.
The centre will bring together clinicians who have imaging expertise with leaders in hyperpolarisation technology and neuroscientists, supported through a network of existing scientific, clinical, and industrial collaborations within and outside York. CHyM will link clinical needs and application with the most up-to-date scientific knowledge in hyperpolarisation and contrast agents. It will also provide a commercial route for the rapid development of novel imaging technologies.
CHyM will be developed adjacent to the BioCentre on York Science Park, alongside YNIC, with an additional MRI scanner being sited in the Biology Department. Building work will start in mid-2011, with completion in 2012.
