1. A new approach to booking study space in the Library

We have listened! Following student feedback, the Library now has a blended approach to study space bookings, with some spaces remaining bookable and some not. The Morrell 2nd floor, Fairhurst 1st floor and Burton 1st floor are areas where booking is required, as are all Single and Group Study Rooms. The rest of the spaces on the other floors of all three buildings no longer require booking; you can sit wherever you like. This short Library video explains more.

2. It’s Student Volunteering Week

Volunteering is a great way to boost your wellbeing and employability, while helping others! Read second year Florence’s blog post on the reasons she gets involved in volunteering and find out more about volunteering opportunities at York. See how the Volunteering Team are celebrating Student Volunteering Week over on Instagram: @uoyvolunteering.

3. Light up the night tonight

We are marking Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2022 with a series of events, talks and activities around the theme of 'Changing the Conversation'. Join us at Greg's Place at 5.30 pm tonight (Monday) to ‘Light up the Night’ and walk across campus in a display of solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. See all SVAW activities and find sources of support.

4. Marking Race Equality Week

The theme of this year’s Race Equality Week is ‘Action not just Words’. We encourage everyone to listen to the diverse stories from our communities, educate ourselves about racial justice, and actively take part in developing awareness and promoting race equality. Join the #MyNameIs discussion and networking event on Wednesday 9 February and sign up to the new UoY race equality network.

5. Studying statistics successfully

Are you finding working with statistics a little difficult? You’re not alone! Join the Academic Skills Community for a series of workshops developed to make learning statistics easier. There are ‘Statistics Wellbeing - Strategies for Studying Statistics Successfully’ sessions, as well as workshops on getting started with SPSS and RStudio.
