UoY community update

Covid vaccine clinics
Please be aware that there are currently no Covid vaccine clinics scheduled to take place on campus. If you require a Covid vaccine, you should book a vaccine appointment online. The nearest vaccination centre is at Askham Bar.

1. Moving out?

If you’re moving out of accommodation soon, you’ll want to avoid any unnecessary charges. If you’re on campus, see our handy guide on moving out of your room. If you’re in private accommodation, we have advice on ending your tenancy and moving out. Wherever you live, please dispose of your rubbish responsibly. Don’t forget there are British Heart Foundation collection boxes on campus for items still in good condition. If you’re leaving your bike on campus over the summer, you’ll need to make sure we know about it.

If you’re staying on campus over the summer, look out for the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) summer brochure - coming soon. Check the revised summer opening times for catering venues and shops on campus as well as student events taking place. There will also be further academic support activities from the Academic Skills Community - keep an eye on student news for updates.

Have a great summer!

2. Support Ukrainian refugee schoolchildren and learn Ukrainian

If you’re in York next academic year, York Students in Schools (YSIS) and Global Opportunities are looking for enthusiastic English as an Additional Language (EAL) volunteers to provide classroom support to local primary and secondary school Ukrainian refugees in Autumn Term. Training will be provided and you don’t need to be able to speak Ukrainian to carry out the placement. Application deadline: Monday 4 July. Find out more about the EAL volunteering opportunity (on Handshake).

You may also be interested in signing up for an 8-week Languages For All Ukrainian for Everyday Communication beginners course, starting on Tuesday 28 June. You can apply for the language course separately or you may be eligible for funding for the course if you are successful in applying for the EAL volunteering opportunity.

3. Explore British culture this summer

Explore fascinating insights on modern Britain, language and identity, post-Brexit Britain and British cinema by joining fellow students from CITY College (York’s Europe Campus) on this short course in July. Dig deeper through interactive discussion and seminar activities as well as social activities and a whole-day trip to Whitby all included. The tuition fee is waived for current York students. Find out more and book your place on the short course.

4. WIN: Don’t forget to complete the Active Lives survey

Help shape the future of sport at York and be in with a chance of winning a York Bid Gift Card worth £350 in the process! You don’t have to be a sportsperson or active gym goer to take part in the Active Lives survey -  we want everyone’s thoughts and opinions. Complete the Active Lives survey before midnight on Sunday 26 June.

5. WIN: Did you take part in Student Connect?

Student Connect is our scheme that matches you with other students so that you can make new connections. If you took part this year, we'd really love to hear from you. Simply fill in our short Student Connect feedback form and we'll enter you into a draw to win one of two £30 Amazon vouchers!
