York tops the Russell Group for academic support
York has been ranked top in the Russell Group for academic support, according to the latest National Student Survey. It is the sixth year in a row that we have claimed the top spot. York is ranked seventh in the Russell Group for overall satisfaction, with 80%, up from last year's 78%, and above the national average of 76%. Find out more about our NSS results.

1. Postgraduate study room move

The Library study room for postgraduates has moved to LMO/111 in the Morrell building. The room has greater capacity than the old room and we will be adding additional IT facilities along with access control. Find out about the Library postgraduate study room. To further help your motivation to study over the summer, the GSA is organising an in-person study session on Tuesday 26 July with free refreshments. Register for the free GSA study session. Or head to Wentworth Graduate College’s Shut Up and Write events over the next few Thursdays.

2. Summer in York

Don’t forget that campus food outlets and retail stores have different opening hours outside of undergraduate term time. Find out what’s going on by picking up the GSA summer events programme you’ll find dotted around campus. It’s important to take time out so check out forthcoming student events and  GSA events, including the weekly wellbeing walk and the regular postgrad community gardening days.

3. Free period products trial continues

Following positive feedback via last term’s ‘Tell us’ student survey, the trial of free period products on campus is set to continue into the next academic year. In partnership with YUSU and the GSA, dispensing machines were rolled out in April in three locations on campus: the Library, Spring Lane Building and the Ron Cooke Hub. It’s part of a campaign to tackle period poverty. Find out about the free period products scheme.

4. York Sport 10 days for £10 offer

This month, York Sport are offering 10 days of member access for £10 (plus a refundable £10 deposit). Get access to the gym, pools, fitness classes, and health suite. The offer is valid from Monday 18 to Sunday 31 July.

5. Vote for York to be the home of Great British Railways

Following a successful bid by City of York Council, backed by the University, York has made the Government’s final shortlist under consideration to be the new headquarters of Great British Railways. Back the bid by voting for York.
