A day in the life of a Partner Technology Advisor in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Employer's website

The recruitment process

I was at university and applied for the graduate program. I filled out an online application form and then had a series of interviews - starting with a phone interview and ending with a half-day at the Microsoft offices, delivering presentations, doing a group exercise and being interviewed by four different managers.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

I would like to go to a role that allows more of the presentation angle.

My advice to students considering work

My advice is to get involved with lots of societies. These give you valuable experiences and something interesting to talk about at interview.

What I do

I work with Microsoft partners building practices around my specialist technologies. I help them build technical and sales skills, as well as winning their first key deals. I work with our managed partners, making them aware of new developments and company strategies. I also help evangelise our technology to new and recruit partners, as well as working alongside partners to promote the technology to customers.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Extracurricular skills:
Presentation skills are vital in my role. I was a co-presenter on a URY radio show which helped develop this skill.

What I like most

I enjoy doing demos and presentations of how technology can be use and I like
getting to try out new technology.

What I like least

What would I change? I would have learned earlier on about how to promote myself inside the organisation and gain credit when I did a good job.
