A day in the life of a Director of Golf in Australia

Spend time working on your presenting skills, verbal communication, and understanding of behavioural economics. A great CV might get you an interview but you need to be able to instantly connect with people.

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

Metropolitan Golf Club is a private members golf club in the famed Sandbelt region just outside of Melbourne. It is ranked as the 14th best course in Australia.

What do you do?

Oversee the management of the entire golf operation and golf operations team. Deliver end-to-end corporate events, and engage with the members.

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

The love of working outdoors and engaging with people. Plus a long standing passion for golf, as well as developing my reports to have more fulfilling careers.

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

No, I thought I would continue to work in the golf industry.

Describe your most memorable day at work

Having my direct reports achieve things they didn't think they could do, or for them to feel successful is what drives me.

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

I studied online, so these were more my normal daily activities outside of work and studying.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Spend time working on your presenting skills, verbal communication, and understanding of behavioural economics. A great CV might get you an interview but you need to be able to instantly connect with people.
