James Hilder is the Technical Team Manager for ISA. He completed a PhD in Bio-inspired Electronic Engineering and the University of York in 2010 and proceeded to work at the University on a number of research projects involving robotics, electronic sensors, neural-networks and bio-inspired algorithms.
James then moved to technical roles looking after the robotics laboratory at York and worked on various projects developing robotics hardware and software systems for teaching and research.
James looks after all the laboratory, workshop and technical areas of the ISA building. His role also includes ensuring that health, safety and welfare commitments are followed in the building.
James' PhD research focused on electronic circuit design using genetic algorithms and other bio-inspired techniques. He has worked on multiple robotics projects, developing software, operating systems, electronics and mechanical hardware.
Several projects have involved swarms and collectives of robots. More recent research has included development of hybrid-sensors for robotic localisation, object detection and communication.
