Exploring Engagement in Combined Authorities: An Analysis of Sociodemographic, Economic, and Identity Factors
Combined authorities are the latest in a long line of regional government reform in England. These bodies, where local authorities can pool together resources under the supervision of a directly elected mayor, have not received any significant support from the public. Why is this? My research aims to break down the issues that keep turnout and engagement in combined authorities low, including where combined authorities are set up, how they try to reach out to voters, or the visible impact they have. I will then turn my attention to regional political bodies elsewhere to see what can be learned.
