REF 2014: Politics rises to 8th in the UK for research quality

Politics at York is ranked 8th in the UK for research quality in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.

The University of York’s Department of Politics climbed 17 places to 8th among all departments of politics and international studies in the UK for research quality, with the publication of the UK's Research Excellence Framework for 2014. The results confirmed York's standing as a centre of world leading and internationally excellent research, with major global and national impact. 

Other top ten rankings for Politics included:

  • Our research outputs were ranked 7th overall
  • Our 4* (world leading – the highest possible grade) research outputs ranked 9th
  • Our 4* research impact ranked 8th

There were 56 submissions altogether in the area of politics and international studies.
