Evolving a creative interdisciplinary culture

Creativity Across the Disciplines seminar

I will introduce some of the "experiments" we have been undertaking within YCCSA (www.yccsa.org) to nurture a creative interdisciplinary research culture. The setting is a cross-disciplinary research community with a bias towards abstraction and model construction. The ethos is collaborative and collegiate, with an emphasis on risk and trust.  Our toolbox has included such things as structured thinking, facilitation, dialogue & reflection (+ tea and scones).  On the basis of several highly interdisciplinary research proposal development adventures, I will discuss some of the lessons we have learned about effective interdisciplinary working and creativity.   Its an on-going, evolutionary process.

In the spirit of risk and trust, I will present some emerging ideas about creativity in the collective.  In the evolutionary spirit, come along and provide a selective pressure on these, so that they may become more robust (or die, as appropriate!).
