Professor Katherine J. Lewis

Katherine Lewis completed her MA and PhD in Medieval Studies at the University of York and then worked in the History department at the University of Huddersfield for many years. Her research focuses on medieval gender, as well as medieval religious and cultural history. She has published on female saints, as especially St Katherine of Alexandria and other virgin martyr saints, as well as on Margery Kempe. She also works on medieval masculinity and has published a monograph comparing and contrasting the masculine identities of Henry V and Henry VI. She was one of the co editors of a collection of essays on crusading and masculinity. Additionally she has published on modern representations of the Middle Ages, including the depiction of gender in medieval video games. She has appeared six times on BBC Radio 4's 'In Our Time', including programmes on Melisende of Jerusalem, Julian of Norwich and Pope Joan. She is currently an honorary professor at the University of Lincoln.
