Amanda's first degree, which was in Philosophy, was awarded by the University of York in 1975. A PGCE and a myriad of jobs ensued, including a long stint as Graphics Officer at York Minster. Her MA in Medieval Studies was completed in 2011. The title of her dissertation was ‘Aspects of the humanity of Christ in the iconography of early fifteenth-century York.’ In 2025 she completed her PhD thesis entitled ‘The Orthodox Imagination the role of imagery in expressions of Eucharistic piety in late-medieval York.’ I am currently working towards publishing all or part of my doctoral thesis.
Research
Amanda's research interests include the relationship between lay reception of vernacular texts and the use of imagery in parish churches and by guilds.
Amanda is retired and is happy to offer any required support to students at the CMS.
