Posted on 23 September 2018

The Centre is pleased to welcome Professor Dawn Hadley and Dr Katherine Cross.

Professor Hadley joins the Department of Archaeology as a Professor of Medieval Archaeology, while Dr Katherine Cross joins the Department of History as a Lecturer in Medieval History.

Dr Cross is a historian of the Early Middle Ages, focused on the cultural and social history of northern Europe. Earlier this year, she published her first book with York Medieval Press, Heirs of the Vikings: History and Identity in Normandy and England, c.950-c.1015.

Before coming to York, Katherine worked for four years as a Postdoctoral Researcher on the Leverhulme project 'Empires of Faith' at the British Museum and Wolfson College, Oxford. In this role, she was one of the co-curators of the Ashmolean exhibition 'Imagining the Divine: Art and the Rise of World Religions,' and Katherine’s teaching in the Centre will be based on the research leading to this exhibition.

Professor Hadley is co-director of the Viking Winter Camp at Torksey project, and a leading researcher in gender and childhood in medieval archaeology.
