Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions

The University aims to provide a working and learning environment which is fair, welcoming and inclusive and where staff and students can fulfil their potential. The establishment of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Champions in each department is an important initiative for the University in support of this aim.

Working in collaboration with the Equality and Diversity Office, the role of the champions is to:

  • Influence and inform their department
  • Raise awareness of the equality dimension in decision making in their department
  • Act as a conduit for information on equality initiatives
  • Celebrate success and developments
  • Support their department in Athena SWAN and other initiatives, eg. Race Equality Charter Mark
  • Feed back into the University structure

York Law School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions for 2023/24 are Dr Ailbhe O’Loughlin (Semester 1) and Professor Charlotte O'Brien (Semester 2).

York Law School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions chair the School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The Committee is working with the School to implement its EDI Strategy and regularly consults staff and students on EDI matters. The Committee’s membership includes two student EDI champions.
