I joined the Department of Language and Linguistic Science in 2022. Having grown up in Uruguay and Spain, I obtained my MPhil in English Linguistics and Language Acquisition from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and then received my PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies from the University of Manchester.
My interdisciplinary research has focused on volunteer translation and societal aspects of human-machine interaction, with an increasing interest in legal and medical translation. Before joining York, I was Interim Programme Director of the MA in Translation at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Manchester. Throughout my career, I have also worked closely with other UK and international institutions such as London Metropolitan University, the University of Oslo, and Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
In addition to my academic roles, I am a sworn translator accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
