Costs and funding for Specialist Skills Post-Registration Development (SSPRD)

We are now open to receive applications for modules for the academic year2018/19.

Costs for students eligible for funding via Health Education England (Yorkshire and the Humber) (HEE Y&H)

Students who have in the past been eligible for Specialist Skills Post Registration Development (SSPRD) funding via Health Education England (Yorkshire and the Humber) are welcome to apply but we are unable to process any applications until funding is confirmed.

If funded places are available, the following criteria applies:

  • You must work in an NHS trust, ambulance service or primary care area covered by HEE Y&H.
  • Funded places may be available by agreement with HEE Y&H to staff in the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Tees Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust working in North Yorkshire.
  • Funded places may be available by agreement with HEE Y&H to nursing staff working in the prison service, justice service and hospices.
  • Funded places may be available to social services staff working in a healthcare environment or to staff in independent sector homes providing placements for pre-registration students from the University of York. This is agreed on a case-by-case basis.
  • You must get formal approval from your organisation’s Learning and Development team to access HEE Y&H funded places.

If HEE Y&H funding is not available, you will have to look for alternative ways to fund your study eg: direct from your employer or self-fund.

Costs for self-funding students

Our complete range of SSPRD modules is also open to UK or EU students wishing to cover their own module fees.

Currently for 2018/19 our fees are:

  • £1225 for modules worth 20 academic credit points
  • £660 for modules worth 10 academic credit points

Fees quoted will be for the year study begins and subject to increase in subsequent years. The University reserves the right to alter the fees.

International students from outside the EU are not eligible to apply for our SSPRD modules. Our current SSPRD modules do not comply with UK Border Agency requirements for a student (Tier 4) visa as they are classified as part-time programmes. For further information visit
