York hosts inaugural research and scholarship meeting

The Department of Health Sciences hosted the Sigma International Honour Society of Nursing, Phi Mu (England) Chapter, inaugural research and scholarship meeting in the northern hub, on November 9th 2018. The guest speaker was Professor Roger Watson RN, PhD, FRCN, FAAN, Professor of Nursing, University of Hull and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advanced Nursing. Hespoke on the topic of Scholarship, research and scholarly writing -observations from an editor. Professor Paul Galdas, Professor in Nursing and nursing team lead at York also presented a research paper on men’s health. Dr Janet Scammel, Associate Professor from Bournemouth and President of the Chapter, highlighted the support Sigma as a society offers nurses undertaking research and scholarship. 


Dr Cathryn Britton, receives Churchill Fellowship

Dr Cathryn Britton, Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at York has been awarded a Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. This will allow her to visit Australia and New Zealand in 2019 to explore approaches to midwifery education, using ‘cloud based’ learning to support learning simulation of midwifery practice to enhance confidence in clinical practice. She will also meet heads of Midwifery Services to examine strategies for retaining newly qualified midwives in the workforce.


International Nurse Researchers Hall of Fame Award

Professor Steven Ersser, Professor in Clinical Nursing Research at York, is one of 20 nurses worldwide inducted into the International Nurse Researchers Hall of Fame by the Sigma International Honour Society of Nursing, at the Sigma International Nursing Research Congress, Melbourne in July 2018.
