The questions we want to answer
An initial exploration of the data available from UkBiobank indicated there was a lot we could use for the purpose of translational research into mental health and chronic pain. We therefore made an application for a data set to explore the following research questions:
1. How are social exclusion and feelings of loneliness related?
2. Are people who are socially excluded and feel lonely more prone to developing chronic pain and poor mental health as compared to people who are not socially excluded?
3. Are levels of social exclusion and loneliness associated with a higher likelihood of experiencing pain?
4. Is poor mental health associated with an increased risk of developing or worsening chronic pain in people who are socially excluded?
